Wilfred Owen: Anthem For Doomed Youth
Penguin 70 project
This was my first university project and one I still feel very proud of. We each were
given a book at random to read and design a front cover for. Anthem for Doomed Youth
is a powerful collection of Wilfred Owen's first world war poems and one that I encourage everyone to read.

A major theme of Anthem for Doomed Youth is the toll the war had on the mind of the
men fighting it. I wanted to try and convey this by breaking apart the image of Wilfred Owen and distressing the surface of the paper enough for him to slowly disappear into
his own writing.

The above images are results of my experimentation, I decided to go with the image on the left as the tear across the eyes (revealing a field of poppies) felt like a powerful and strong way to show the removal of Wilfred Owen's humanity.
